Multifunctional Climate Adaptation

Created at: 17 Apr 2023

Description

The Bernardussquere is an extension of Thomas van Aquinostraat, which has previously been redesigned in a climate-adaptive way. The main street and parkingplace on the square have been replaced by a park with trees, plants, grass, paths, a small bridge and a wadi, on which all the pavements and rainpipes of the buildings run off above the ground. Existing trees and plants have been retained and supplemented as much as possible. The square now has more space for: • the collection and infiltration of rainwater; • use by local residents; • a green (walking) connection from the neighborhood to the Westerpark; • the development of biodiversity; • a cool place in hot summer periods.
