Bioretention Cells (BIO): This bioretention cell is located along Haro Street in downtown Vancouver and receives road runoff from a 550 m2 residential area.  This system has an inlet and outlet that are quite close together, which was unavoidable due to the presence of other infrastructure. A ponding depth of 15 cm between the inlet and outlet help to spread out the water before overflow occurs. The subsoils in this area were described as being coarse sand with some gravel, and the saturated hydraulic conductivity found in the field was 196 mm/hr, and a design infiltration rate of 20 mm/hr was selected.
