Bioswale processing water from water playground (2010)

(Bio)swale

Multifunctional Climate Adaptation

Created at: 29 Mar 2021

Description

The waterplayground uses groundwater as primary source. The water is pumped up from 70 m below surface level. The water is used only once and discharged to a swale to infiltrate. The next summer when the system was in first use, it appeared that the infiltration capacity of the swale was not sufficient. This caused flooding of the whole playground. In addition two vertical infiltration pipes of 4 m in length and 500 m in diameter were installed. The water from the swale flows into a gullypot with a leaf filter on top. The gullypot transports it into the two vertical infiltration pipes.
