The Flagship Education Centre

Community Garden

Created at: 30 Aug 2022

Description

Built-in 2017 by the Sustainable Coastlines Charity The Flagship Education Centre was made with mostly recycled and salvaged materials with the help of Panuku Auckland Development and Corrections of Auckland to make this build. It is an education centre which teaches about sustainability. The Corrections Department held workshops for the inmates on how to salvage timber and shipping containers which could be reflected in their sentence. Around 2500 pallets were reused in this build with help from the community. This building is nearly going to be a fully certified 'Living Building", which would make it the most sustainable building in New Zealand. The NBS was used as seating outside with plants inside. It was urban furniture made from recycled wood.
