In hot summer 2021 only half of the required water could be delivered. 2021 was a year of almost no rain in the winter time.

One of the biggest issues besides the lack of rain, is the lack of maintenance of the system. The tributaries deliver a lot of sludge to the artificial lake thus downsizing the storage capacity. The tributaries , supply channels are also full of sludge

Op Sicilië valt de meeste regen in de winter en wordt dan in stuwmeren opgeslagen. Het grootste stuwmeer is Lego Pozillo. In de winter van 2021 viel er vrijwel geen regen, in de zomer kon het meer niet meer dan de helft van het benodigde water leveren. Een grote bijkomende oorzaak is het gebrek aan onderhoud in het systeem. De toevoer rivieren, bekeken voeren veel materiaal naar het meer waardoor deze ondieper is geworden en minder water kan bevatten. De toevoerkanalen zijn ook niet onderhouden en slibben eveneens dicht
